8 Ways to Get Your Ex Back

If you’re going through a breakup and wish to get your ex back, it can be tempting to try anything to change their mind about the breakup, from sweetly asking if you can take them out on another date to calling them at all hours of the night pleading and crying that you’ll change everything about yourself so they won’t leave you. While these tactics might not get your ex back immediately, they will almost certainly backfire in the long run. To get your ex back and ensure that the relationship doesn’t end up failing again, do this instead...

1) Be genuine

When you’re trying to get back together with an ex, there’s a fine line between being too aggressive and too passive. Make sure you don’t cross it by coming off as desperate or clingy. Instead, play it cool. If your ex brings up their relationship status, respond thoughtfully, even if you still have strong feelings for them—after all, you don’t want them getting the wrong idea. You may also want to consider reaching out subtly on social media: Post something that reminds them of when you were together (just be careful not to come across as creepy). These little reminders can rekindle some romantic feelings. Finally, stop checking their social media profiles; obsessing over whether they’ve moved on might leave you feeling depressed and in denial about what actually happened. Staying positive and looking ahead is much more likely to get results!

2) Accept blame

One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to win back their ex is blaming them for everything that went wrong in your relationship. This will only push them further away and create a very hostile environment. Instead, you should apologize sincerely for whatever mistakes you made and accept blame where appropriate. This will help open up communication between you and your ex, which is vital in any reconciliation process. Try making a list of things you could have done differently or better during your relationship; figure out what specifically led to its end, whether it was due to personal incompatibility or outside influences.

3) Give them space

A common misconception about trying to get an ex back is that you have to be with them all day, every day. Although it might seem like a good idea at first, it could end up making your ex uncomfortable and even push them further away. If you want your ex back in your life, give them space and communicate with them only when they’re comfortable doing so. This allows them time to reflect on what went wrong and figure out if there is still a future with you. But don’t break their trust! Don’t contact them too much or else they may consider you stalker-ish or clingy. Use these moments of silence as an opportunity for self-reflection as well; perhaps your ex will reconsider because of how great of a person you are.

4) Move on from the past

If you’re still hung up on your ex, it might be hard to see a way forward. If that’s true for you, make sure you’re taking time to look after yourself and move on from your past relationship. Although no one can get over another person overnight, knowing how to get your ex back will depend heavily on how you deal with these feelings of regret, anger, and sadness. The best thing you can do is know when to seek professional help or advice. You needn’t work through every aspect of your relationship alone – we all need guidance at times in our lives. It sounds clichéd but people do come into our lives for a reason and by letting go and learning how to get an ex back, you can find happiness again.

5) Do whatever it takes

If you’re going to try to get back together with your ex, do whatever it takes to win him or her over again. This may include changing yourself for a little while so that you can really show how much you’ve changed. You also want people who are close to your ex (including friends and family) on your side. If they can support your getting back together, then they will work on convincing them of it as well. Be sure to write down all of these ways in a notebook so you don’t forget anything! Then pick your favorite method and go for it!

6) Find out what went wrong

To get your ex back, you need to understand what went wrong and why. At a minimum, ask yourself: Why did my relationship end? Was it due to something I did? Or was it outside my control (such as infidelity or irreconcilable differences)? Most likely, your breakup resulted from a combination of factors that could have been corrected with communication and compromise. If there’s anything you can do to help resolve conflict moving forward, do it. But don’t beg for forgiveness; instead, offer an apology with a solution in mind.

7) Work on yourself

The only way you’ll be able to make things right with your ex and be attractive again is if you work on yourself. You need to stop blaming your ex for everything and realize that their decision to break up was a reflection of them, not you. You also need to understand that they might not want a relationship with you anymore, but it doesn’t mean they won’t ever want one. It’s all about patience: Let time do its thing before trying any other method. If your ex was meant to be yours, it will happen eventually—you just have to give her/him some space.

8) Acknowledge their strengths

No one wants to be around someone who puts them down all of the time. When you break up with your partner, it’s important that you recognize their strengths as well as their weaknesses. You don’t want a relationship with someone who sees nothing good in you—and neither does anyone else. So step away from self-loathing; cut out any negativity that may have crept into your mind and heart during your breakup; and try developing a healthy sense of self-esteem. In doing so, you will pave a way for new love to flow back into your life once again.

6 Tips to Help You Stop Fighting with Your Spouse
