Top 10 Free Dating Sites

Dating can be tough. First, you have to decide which dating site you want to join, then you have to figure out how to set up your profile, and then you have to send a bunch of messages hoping that someone replies. But the hardest part of dating comes after all of that — talking with the person in real life! That’s why I’ve decided to compile this list of the top 10 free dating sites so that it’s easier for you to find someone special without paying too much money along the way.

1) Tinder

This app is simple and to the point. You sign up with your Facebook account, fill out a brief bio (or not), add some photos, and start swiping. Tinder is free for iOS and Android users. The app also comes with extra features (called Tinder Plus) that are useful if you want more control over your matches or if you’re looking for something serious rather than just a hookup. Best of all, there are no ads on Tinder.

2) Happn

Best if you’re looking for a hookup, Happn is arguably Tinder’s biggest competitor and it’s gaining ground in some major cities across Canada. It uses your GPS to track where you are and connects you with other Happn users who are nearby. Because of its popularity, Happn’s early investors included WeWork founder Adam Neumann and Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley. Like Bumble and Tinder, there are restrictions on how many times you can right-swipe before requiring that you pay for an upgrade (in Happn’s case, that would be $5 per month). More than 1 million people use Happn every day — so chances are good that someone close to you is on it.

3) MeetMe

OkCupid is a great site for talking to new people, but it’s missing one key element: video. MeetMe helps fill that void. You can broadcast yourself live on MeetMe, and you can share videos with friends in your network or with people who are nearby you. It’s really like Skype but specifically designed for dating.

4) Zoosk

This dating app—available on iOS and Android—is one of our favorites, especially for folks looking for a serious relationship. Zoosk offers tons of ways to meet new people and get dates, making it easier than ever to find love online. From its name (short for zoo and match) to its sleek interface, Zoosk makes meeting your date as easy as possible.

5) OkCupid

OkCupid is one of the most popular free dating sites on Earth and has millions of active users. Membership is free and it works in a similar way to Tinder; you answer a series of questions about yourself, then search for other members who match your profile.

6) Coffee Meets Bagel

Coffee Meets Bagel is a popular dating app that lets users have a virtual cup of coffee with potential matches before deciding whether or not to meet up for an in-person date. Users fill out a survey about their interests and choose photos from Facebook or Instagram that display their personal brand.

7) Plenty of Fish

This free dating site doesn’t focus on any one particular demographic but is a mix of everybody—which can be both a good and bad thing. With over 70 million users, POF offers newbies a lot of opportunities to find others, but it also has an inordinate amount of spammers. This isn’t uncommon with free sites.

8) JDate

JDate is one of several free online dating sites specifically geared toward Jewish singles. It’s a solid option if you know what you’re looking for in date since members are asked to fill out an extensive profile detailing their religious affiliations, interests, and preferences. JDate also offers live chat rooms and real-time messaging features so you can get to know others better before arranging a face-to-face meeting.

9) Bumble

Bumble is a unique dating app that offers women control over their dating experience. Bumble works similarly to Tinder, but with a key difference. After two people swipe right on each other’s profiles, they are given 24 hours to message each other before their connection disappears. If there is no exchange of messages between two users after one day, then it’s off to the scrap heap of missed connections for you!

10) Black People Meet

Black People Meet is a free black dating site that lets you meet single African-American men and women in your area. You can browse member profiles or use its advanced search options to find someone that fits your criteria. The site’s interface is user-friendly, fun, and well designed.

3 Reasons Dating Makes You Feel Depressed

It’s well known that depression can come from feeling lonely, but what about when the loneliness isn’t yours? When you’re dating, whether it’s casually or seriously, you can find yourself in situations where you feel left out, rejected, or lonely despite being in a relationship. Dating makes you feel depressed because of three reasons: low self-esteem, lack of communication, and unreasonable expectations. If you can fix these issues, you won’t have to deal with dating-related depression anymore! 1) Checking your phone all the time If you’re dating and spending a lot of time with someone, it’s inevitable that you two will text each other. The problem is that our phones can pull us away from enjoying real-life experiences and conversations with friends. If you find yourself checking your phone all too often while on a date, stop! Put your phone down and spend some quality time with your special someone instead. It’ll be worth it when you look back on your relationship later. Remember t...

How to Have a Good Time on Dating Apps

Dating apps have had their ups and downs, but with so many to choose from, it’s pretty easy to find one that matches your personality, lifestyle, and even physical location (if you want to get really specific). The idea behind dating apps is really simple – you create an account on the app of your choice and start browsing through other people’s profiles; if you like someone, you swipe right on their picture; if not, swipe left. Tips for Getting Approved Like other dating apps, you’ll need to find someone willing to approve your profile before you can begin sending and receiving messages. (Bumble women always make the first move.) To increase your chances of getting approved—and get more matches—try answering these questions in a way that highlights your personality, not your last job title. Here are some tips for spicing up your bio ● Make it clear what type of relationship you’re looking for right off the bat. I like my relationships with men to be as straightforward as possible, so ...
